Silke: a kinetic chandelier
This robotic chandelier consists out of twelve arms, which can move individually and direct a lightbeam from their tip to any point in the room. It reacts to people and the general light condition surrounding it. Depending on the movement of the spectators its behaviour changes: using only one arm or many – or even getting scared and withholding her light to the visitors. Silke denies what we are familiar with, as lighting usually is a quite steady element in our environments. Combined with the changing sounds of the complex mechanics, this lamp creates an atmosphere of a living creature being present.
